La Playa is the best Mexican restaurant in town. The food is so fresh, they serve large portions of it, it's really good. The people are so nice and sweet.

Not a four star rest, as overall rated when We visited...horrible service. I had to ask three times for Queso dip and long waits for any service. Food was below average also. Went habaneros down the street yesterday. Good place, much better than la playa

We decided on to try this restaurant based on the 3 star overall review and not to many Mexican restaurants in this area. Overall the food was fresh, and hot. A bit over priced for lunch and the portions served should have been half the cost. The cheapest thing on the menu was $10 for 2 tacos and rice. We asked for a kids menu and didn't receive one so I take that as that don't offer that choice?!? Alcohol is super expensive! I was overcharged for margaritas and didn't realize it until we were gone and my husband paid for the meal. The menu stated 7.75 and we were charged over $10 each. Eeek! They were weak anyways! I have NEVER gotten a margaritas from a Mexican restaurant that was weak until today. I was disappointed. I was super excited as I read by a previous yelper they were strong and we are use to that in Ohio. I had a major disappointment. Better beverage making skills needed!!! The staff was super friendly- thumbs up! We did wait on our drinks and chips like the other reviews state. The food is what got the 3 stars other wise the rating would drop!

The service & food was not that great. First off it took a long time for them to even take a drink order. And that slow service was like that the whole time. Also chips & salsa apparently isn't continuous as the guy never brought more chips. The food was ok but nothing special. Bottom line is that the price was too high what we got.

Quality food, reasonable prices and strong drinks. Everything was very fresh and we will be back!

This has to be the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at...I tried 3 times and each time it gets badder than the time before. This must be a front for something else. Ugg!!

This is the best Mexican in PI. Great menu with a selection of Caribbean dishes. Clean, great service, freshly made food, nice atmosphere. Don't bother with Habenaros down the road.

Worst frozen margarita I've ever tasted, like frozen slush with a hint of saltiness and no tequila. Food was good, service was good too. Salsa is watery, but tastes ok.

Try the Caribbean cusine. Those are the gems on the menu in my opinion. Fresh food and smiling faces always invite our family back here each week. Lisa and the staff are very sweet and accommodating to my son who is a very picky eater. Great Place

It was ok. Not the best, not the worst. The salsa was not so good - very liquid. Service a little slow - had to ask for water refills - but they were very nice.

One of my favorite, authentic Mexican restaurants east of the Mississippi ! I'm from Jacksonville, FL, and every time we come to Myrtle Beach for family vacation, I make two to three trips to La Playa. The restaurant is owned by a family from Guadalajara, and they make authentic Mexican food like burritos, tacos, and more authentic dishes like mocajete and albondigas soup. Plus, their margaritas are top notch. Be sure to ask for the top shelf margaritas with premium Don Julio Tequila and fresh lime juice. The service is great, the food and drinks are spectacular, and don't miss La Playa girls.

Best Mexican food in town. Not like every other Mexican joint you frequent. More authentic and delicious! Good service and good margaritas too. I eat here too much and love it every time. Dieting? Try the ensalada light. You won't be disappointed.

We stopped in for a quick meal before a wedding. We told them we had to be in and out in about thirty minutes. We sat down, they immediately grabbed our drinks, some chips, etc. Food was great! Service was good. Only complaint, not a lot of people in there around three pm. But they sat everyone pretty close. We could hear every conversation..

Kicked off our week of vacation here - and ended up returning for our last meal. Decor is standard Mexican/Southwestern but it's pretty large inside. The side sun room is nice to eat in. Servers were friendly and speedy with our orders. The food was okay but I ended up preferring Habaneros down the road - food was a bit fresher with more flavor.

This is not your typical tex-mex joint. They serve up some really high quality, creative, fresh, latino / carribean dishes. Try them out!

Food was tasty-- I loved what I had, the chicken with cilantro sauce. Everyone at our table (party of 8, 1 picky adult eater, 1 6 year old, 1 baby) was happy with what they got. Service was good-- definitely on South Carolina Time. I had to get used to the pace of life. Decor was typical cantina style. We went on a Friday night when there was a guitarist who was AWESOME!!! All in all, I'd go again. It is reasonably priced (read the front of your menu VERY CAREFULLY as there are all sorts of rules designed to increase your check), and the staff is friendly and helpful. Bathroom was also very clean.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
